Qualifications

Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering. Must hold a California registered Professional Engineer (P. E.) license. A valid California Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required. A minimum of 7 years of construction contract management experience, specifically related to bridge and/or structures projects. Familiarity with CALTRANS methods and procedures, municipal agency projects, and document coordination on federally funded projects is preferred. Other Required Skills:In-depth knowledge of construction methods and procedures, including Caltrans and standard plans and specifications. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with team members, contractors, and agency personnel.

Role overview

The Structures Representative, based in San Jose, plays a key role in supporting structure construction projects. The position centers on technical review, field inspection, and contract administration. Collaboration with inspectors, project teams, and clients is essential to keep projects moving forward and to uphold quality standards.

Main responsibilities

  • Independently analyze technical submittals, focusing on shoring and falsework.
  • Review change orders, submittals, shop drawings, materials testing, surveying, RFIs, and engineering drawings. Prepare professional communications as needed.
  • Support construction engineering tasks for structures including bridges, retaining walls, soundwalls, pump stations, and buildings.
  • Collaborate with technical field inspectors and project teams to achieve project goals.
  • Conduct field inspections, manage contract administration for structures, and prepare change orders.
  • Oversee projects when the Resident Engineer is unavailable.
  • Manage professional and technical staff as well as contract administration duties.
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor construction schedules.
  • Compile and maintain daily construction reports, diaries, and other project documentation.
  • Verify material quality and keep accurate material and inspection records.
  • Assist with recruitment and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Serve as the main contact for clients and approving agencies.
  • Participate in contract claims and strategies to avoid general claims.
  • Coordinate tasks with contractors and agencies across various projects.
