The industrial compute team plays a pivotal role in shaping our core infrastructure strategy and actualizing this vision. This team is integral to site selection and the buildout process, operating at the crossroads of commercial, technical, strategic, and operational domains, while engaging with teams and executives both within and outside of OpenAI.

About the Role:

We are looking for a dynamic Strategic Sourcing Manager who is prepared to tackle global-scale challenges with numerous stakeholders and significant commercial implications. If you are passionate about structuring transformative deals and influencing the future of infrastructure on a global scale, we invite you to join us.

The Industrial Compute team, which supports Stargate, OpenAI's ambitious next-generation supercomputing platform, is seeking an experienced sourcing professional to spearhead our infrastructure procurement initiatives at the forefront of AI technology.

In this role, you will take charge of the complete sourcing strategy and execution for datacenter network hardware. You will collaborate closely with engineering and business teams to guarantee hardware availability, foster new vendor relationships, and negotiate intricate commercial agreements. This position goes beyond traditional sourcing; it is foundational work essential for constructing the world's most advanced supercomputer.

Your responsibilities will include shaping supplier engagement, defining commercial terms, and ensuring vendor accountability, all while being central to OpenAI’s infrastructure strategy. The outcomes of your work will directly influence our capability to scale efficiently, securely, and promptly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic roadmaps for the next generation of network infrastructure, including long-haul fiber, in-building networking, and optical transport solutions, in close collaboration with engineering teams.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and utilize insights to inform future-focused, category-specific sourcing strategies.

  • Initiate, negotiate, and manage contracts for vital datacenter components, including but not limited to network switches, routers, DWDM/RLS transport solutions, optics, cabling, and rack hardware.

  • Identify risks and ensure hardware availability across a diverse portfolio of backbone and networking components.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, legal, and finance teams to align sourcing strategies with overarching project and organizational objectives.
