Minimum Qualifications:Experience: Four (4) years of verified journey-level experience as a stationary engineer, including maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical and electrical systems in governmental or commercial facilities. License and Certification:Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency at the time of hire. Substitution:Equivalent experience may be substituted by completion of a recognized four-year Stationary Engineer apprenticeship program or graduation from a recognized four-year Maritime Academy with a degree in engineering or technology.

Join the San Francisco Public Library as a Stationary Engineer. Under general supervision, you will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment across Library locations, including the Main Library, 27 branch libraries, and two support facilities. Your role will ensure all equipment and systems operate efficiently and safely while adhering to applicable safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair a diverse range of mechanical systems, ensuring safe and efficient functionality, potentially using computerized building management and maintenance systems.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of machinery and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate logs of operational data, including gauge readings and water quality analyses, to uphold preventative maintenance standards.
  • Manage the safe storage and handling of treatment chemicals, including potential hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, building tenants, and the public to fulfill your duties.
  • Ensure security of the facilities and respond to emergencies as part of the response team.
  • Perform control tests on water samples to maintain water quality and compliance with State regulations, including conducting water analysis as required.
