We are seeking a candidate with a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, ideally with experience in structures, mechanisms, and aerospace applications. You should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the capacity to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams are essential. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.

About the job

Relativity Space designs and builds rockets to meet current launch needs and prepare for future challenges. The Terran R vehicle delivers customer payloads to orbit and supports the increasing demand for launch capacity. Achieving success with Terran R will open the door to new advances in science and exploration, setting the stage for further innovation.

Autonomy and ownership shape the culture at Relativity Space. Team members solve complex problems, help build both rockets and the factory itself, and influence the company’s direction from the ground up. Collaboration happens across propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, and corporate functions. Employees see their work take shape quickly and have a direct impact on both the product and the company culture.

Team focus: Structures and Mechanisms

The Structures and Mechanisms team oversees the entire lifecycle of Terran R’s integrated structures and flight mechanisms. This includes designing, building, and testing both complex moving mechanisms and precision structures. Team members gain direct ownership of hardware and can see progress firsthand on the factory floor. The department uses shared tools and design principles, providing broad exposure to Terran R’s components. Engineers are empowered to make decisions that affect flight hardware, and after the first launch, the focus will shift to improving manufacturability and speed.

Role overview

This Staff Mechanisms Engineer position centers on the design, build, and testing of integrated structures and flight mechanisms for the Terran R vehicle. The role offers direct ownership of hardware, involvement in decision-making, and the chance to see work realized on the factory floor. After the initial launch, efforts will focus on making manufacturing faster and more efficient.
