About the job
latamcent is hiring a Staff Engineer focused on backend systems and analytics, based in Argentina. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, shaping both the architecture and ongoing reliability of core backend platforms. The position also plays a key part in building and maintaining analytics infrastructure that supports product decisions and data integrity.
Role overview
As Staff Engineer, you will own the technical direction for backend services and analytics pipelines. The work spans defining standards, guiding a small team of 1–3 engineers, and leading by example through active coding. The position requires experience building scalable backend systems for consumer or product-led companies, along with a deep understanding of analytics infrastructure, including event taxonomy, data governance, experimentation, and attribution tools.
What you will do
- Audit existing backend and analytics systems to identify critical gaps and improvement areas.
- Establish or refine engineering standards, implement automated testing, and track KPIs for reliability, data quality, and development efficiency.
- Lead the analytics infrastructure: refine event taxonomy, reconcile tools, and improve data reliability for the team.
- Set the technical vision for at least one major backend or data initiative and guide it through to production.
- Build strong working relationships with product and engineering stakeholders through clear, proactive communication.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee delivery and ongoing operation of backend systems, from architecture through production.
- Define and evolve backend engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
- Develop and use KPIs to monitor system reliability, development speed, data quality, and error rates.
- Make system-level architectural decisions and communicate trade-offs to engineering and product teams.
- Manage analytics infrastructure, including event taxonomy, governance, and tool reconciliation (e.g., Amplitude, Appsflyer).
- Develop and maintain experimentation infrastructure: A/B testing, variant assignment, and defining success metrics.
- Debug and maintain user and identity systems across login, logout, multi-device, and reinstall scenarios.
