About the job

Waymo is pioneering the future of autonomous driving technology, striving to become the most trusted driver globally. Originating as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, our focus has been on developing the Waymo Driver—The World’s Most Experienced Driver™—to enhance mobility access and save lives lost in traffic incidents. With over ten million rider-only trips accomplished through autonomous driving across 100 million miles on public roads and extensive simulation, we are redefining transportation across 15+ U. S. states.

The Software Quality Operations (SWQOps) team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and quality of the Waymo Driver. Our mission is to create an adaptable and scalable operation, significantly powered by AI, to provide the critical insights necessary for the confident deployment and growth of Waymo’s autonomous vehicle service.

As Waymo expands into approximately 20 new cities by the end of 2026, the SWQOps team is vital to this growth. The Scenario Operations team is responsible for delivering and maintaining simulation-based directed testing coverage that evaluates the safety and performance of our driver. As a Technical Specialist in Scenario Operations, you will act as the Subject Matter Expert, bridging the gap between our simulation software capabilities and real-world operational execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tooling Development & Optimization: Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to design, test, and deploy state-of-the-art simulation tools that effectively merge human-in-the-loop (HITL) precision with AI-driven automation, ensuring scalable test coverage.
  • Rapid Issue Response: Lead the technical processes for rapid-response simulation-based scenario testing. When issues arise in the field, leverage your comprehensive understanding of the A/V software stack and our tooling to facilitate root-cause analysis and fix validation.
  • Policy Development: Act as the essential link between AI/ML development and operational execution, ensuring alignment and efficiency.
