Role overview
The Software Engineering Intern will help build data-driven applications and AI tools that support environmental workflows. This position offers the chance to take ownership of meaningful projects that contribute to land recovery and community well-being.
What you will do
- Design and implement features for custom applications supporting environmental analysis and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in building AI-powered tools, including structured report generators, retrieval-augmented workflows, and data extraction pipelines.
- Work with varied environmental datasets to improve internal tools and analytical processes.
- Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to gather requirements and turn them into working systems.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Debug, refine, and extend existing software tools.
Sample projects
- Develop pipelines to ingest site regulatory reports and environmental datasets, improving retrieval and analysis workflows using LLMs.
- Create tools that convert geologic data into structured sampling plans for field investigations and regulatory deliverables.
- Build systems that use AI to review and validate report content, flagging discrepancies before submission to regulators.
- Develop interactive GIS and visualization tools for exploring and analyzing environmental and spatial data.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript.
- Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Interest in environmental issues and data analysis.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
