Role overview

The Software Engineering Intern will help build data-driven applications and AI tools that support environmental workflows. This position offers the chance to take ownership of meaningful projects that contribute to land recovery and community well-being.

What you will do

  • Design and implement features for custom applications supporting environmental analysis and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in building AI-powered tools, including structured report generators, retrieval-augmented workflows, and data extraction pipelines.
  • Work with varied environmental datasets to improve internal tools and analytical processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to gather requirements and turn them into working systems.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Debug, refine, and extend existing software tools.

Sample projects

  • Develop pipelines to ingest site regulatory reports and environmental datasets, improving retrieval and analysis workflows using LLMs.
  • Create tools that convert geologic data into structured sampling plans for field investigations and regulatory deliverables.
  • Build systems that use AI to review and validate report content, flagging discrepancies before submission to regulators.
  • Develop interactive GIS and visualization tools for exploring and analyzing environmental and spatial data.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
