About the job
Air Space Intelligence (ASI) develops technology for aviation, defense, energy, and critical infrastructure. With support from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Spark Capital, and Renegade Partners, ASI transforms complex analysis into actionable insights. The team is dedicated to delivering operational decision support and consistently pursues new technical directions.
The Civil Aviation team is focused on modernizing the U. S. air traffic control system. Their mission involves coordinating tens of thousands of flights each day, adapting to rapidly changing conditions. This group builds advanced trajectory prediction and decision-support systems to prepare the national airspace for emerging technologies, including commercial space operations and advanced air mobility. Precision, resilience, and reliability are central to improving both safety and efficiency.
The Software Engineer for Civil Aviation, based in Boston, will design and develop backend systems that underpin U. S. air travel for the future. The role calls for a strong commitment to accuracy and maintainability, supporting a platform that future engineers can readily understand and extend.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement backend systems essential to national airspace operations.
- Tackle large-scale data fusion by ingesting and reconciling varied, noisy, and sometimes conflicting data from sources such as radar, flight plans, weather feeds, and operator inputs.
- Synthesize incoming data into a unified, reliable view and project this state forward in time to support complex optimization.
- Model uncertainty, evaluate data provenance and confidence, and ensure the system handles incomplete or erroneous inputs effectively.
What we value
- Experience building production backend or distributed systems with attention to maintainability, scalability, and performance.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language. The team primarily uses Rust and Python, and values foundational skills to learn these languages quickly.
- Background in data integration, storage, processing, and management aimed at operational excellence.
