About the job
Why Join Stand: At Stand, we're pioneering a revolutionary approach to global property protection. By leveraging cutting-edge physics and artificial intelligence, we model catastrophic risk at the asset level, automating underwriting and mitigation processes to prevent losses before they occur. Our innovation transcends traditional insurance; our true product is a scalable risk engine.
We remain committed where conventional insurers may falter, accurately modeling risks that others only approximate. Our systems are designed not just to adjust prices, but to fundamentally alter outcomes.
The Stand Approach: The existing property insurance framework primarily focuses on pricing losses post-incident. It heavily relies on broad proxies, retrospective data, and manual processes, often accepting damage as an inevitable consequence.
In contrast, Stand adopts a proactive methodology. We simulate real-world catastrophes' impacts on individual properties, translating this data into actionable insights that streamline operations. Our platform enables underwriting capabilities that surpass traditional methods, minimizing friction and maximizing accuracy.
As a pioneering force in the property insurance sector, we utilize first-principles thinking to assess wildfire risks through deterministic, physics-based models, validated against controlled fire experiments. This innovative approach allows us to shift from correlation-based pricing to a detailed understanding of wildfire risk and effective mitigation strategies.
Experiments and the validation of simulations are at the core of our operations. The ability to transform experimental outcomes into clean, well-documented datasets is essential for maintaining the accuracy and reliability of our models, which are crucial for informed underwriting and mitigation strategies.
Location: Onsite in Jackson Square, San Francisco.
Compensation: $30/hour, targeting 40 hours a week. Please note that we do not offer relocation or lodging stipends.
Role Summary: As a Simulation Platform Engineering Intern, you will enhance and support our simulation and digital twin platform integral to Stand's modeling workflows. Collaborating closely with Simulation Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, and industry experts, you will focus on improving the reliability, scalability, and data quality throughout our pipelines.
This internship is perfect for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in building real systems, excited about interdisciplinary learning, and passionate about developing infrastructure from the ground up in a dynamic startup environment.
