Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, water resources engineering, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 6 years of water main design experience or equivalent education and experience. Professional Engineering license in Illinois or the ability to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment. Preferred Qualifications:Over 15 years of progressive design experience in Water/Wastewater as a project engineer and project manager, with at least 5 years leading project teams. Experience with municipal water utility projects. Familiarity with water quality and LSLR regulations and implementation programs. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. Strong interpersonal skills, including client interaction, public speaking, and persuasive communication; adept in project financial management and leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.

Join AECOM as a Senior Water Main Design Manager to play a pivotal role in supporting the Chicago Department of Water's extensive multi-billion dollar Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This strategic position is essential for managing the Water Main Design task within the program, assisting the Task Leader in the development and upkeep of a prioritized list for water main replacements and lead service line replacements (LSLR). You will be responsible for delivering the necessary quantity of water main designs to achieve annual CIP mileage targets. Additionally, you will oversee planning, design, and collaboration with the DWM’s Construction Management team in the construction of water mains and lead service line replacements. This role involves mentoring staff and providing guidance across subfunctions such as planning, design, CAD, and records management; as well as ensuring water quality management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the preparation and signing of water main and LSLR designs.
  • Manage special projects, including LSLR designs/implementation and the preparation of contract and bidding documents.
  • Lead cost estimating efforts and prepare Term Agreement Contracts for water main and LSLR construction.
  • Coordinate with construction teams to resolve issues and conflicts.
  • Provide support to DWM in project prioritization and oversee project execution.
  • Conduct quality control on design documents, reviewing plans, signing drawings, and assessing cost estimates.
  • Offer technical assistance regarding water main issues to various program tasks and DWM stakeholders.
  • Support Force Accounts by reviewing work order drawings and identifying conflicts with future water main projects.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with the DWM and Construction Management teams.
  • Facilitate design approval workflows through DWM OUC, IDOT, and other relevant agencies.
  • Assist the Task Leader in maintaining water quality, including lead testing programs and service line inventories.
  • Manage a project team of over twenty professionals, ensuring compliance with contractual commitments.
  • Oversee project production to align with scheduled timelines, budgetary constraints, and quality standards.
  • Supervise technical professionals and project managers, managing workload and staffing needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
