Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering (Master’s degree preferred).6–9 years of professional experience in structural engineering, focusing primarily on building design. Professional Engineer (PE) license required; actively pursuing or planning to obtain Structural Engineer (SE) licensure. Strong experience with structural analysis and design in high seismic regions. Proficiency in structural analysis software; experience with Revit and AutoCAD is a plus. Comprehensive understanding of building codes, structural systems, and construction practices. Ability to exercise sound engineering judgment and work independently while collaborating effectively in a team setting. Excellent communication skills with a passion for mentoring and supporting the growth of junior engineers.

KPFF Consulting Engineers is on the lookout for a seasoned Senior Structural Engineer with 6 to 9 years of relevant experience to join our San Francisco team. This position demands strong technical judgment and design leadership for intricate structural projects, coupled with hands-on involvement in analysis, modeling, and design.

In this pivotal role, you will steer structural solutions, assist project teams in crucial design choices, and mentor junior engineers while remaining engaged in technical tasks. You will collaborate with experienced peers in a design-centric environment that prioritizes innovative engineering, knowledge-sharing, and ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis and design for complex building systems, including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and structural components.
  • Act as a technical resource on project teams, guiding structural concepts from initial design through to construction.
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, design narratives, and technical documentation to ensure project deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate structural drawings created in Revit and AutoCAD, ensuring alignment with design intent and quality benchmarks.
  • Work closely with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to tackle design challenges and integrate solid structural solutions.
  • Engage in site visits and field observations, providing technical insights during construction and addressing on-site queries as needed.
  • Review work produced by junior and mid-level engineers, offering mentorship, constructive feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Support internal quality control initiatives and uphold KPFF’s standards for accuracy, constructability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to enhance project designs while advancing your technical expertise.
