Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect for Scale: Design and develop high-availability, low-latency authentication and authorization services in Go to handle significant load spikes across global regions. Drive Next-Gen Innovation: Establish the IAM foundations for emerging cloud-native AI/ML platforms, creating secure token exchange patterns and identity context injection for complex AI workflows. Modernize Identity: Spearhead the implementation of OIDC and SAML integrations, enabling effortless federated Single Sign-On (SSO) for enterprise clients and strategic global partners. Solve Complex AuthZ: Advance our Policy Engine using industry standards like Rego/OPA to support advanced permissions, dynamic scoping, and network-aware access conditions. Evolve Identity Models: Architect and scale robust, multi-tenant data models to manage complex hierarchies (users, teams, organizations, and resource boundaries) tailored to enterprise customer needs. Operational Excellence: Own service reliability, optimizing Kubernetes deployments, and modernizing legacy data pipelines to contemporary event-driven architectures.

DigitalOcean’s Customer Trust & Engineering group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Identity & Access Management (IAM) team in Boston. This team plays a key role in keeping user accounts secure and reliable, supporting billions of transactions every second.

Role overview

This position centers on maintaining and improving DigitalOcean’s IAM systems. The work involves designing and building new features for the Identity platform, as well as advancing AI-driven projects related to identity and access. The team also handles Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations with partners around the world and continues to enhance the policy engine to support more complex workflows.
