Position: Autonomous Vehicle Operator (Temporary, Full-Time) Location: On-site in South San Francisco, CA 94080 or Santa Clara, CA 95054. Initial training takes place in Santa Clara. Role overview Autonomous Vehicle Operators help drive Nuro’s mission by operating test vehicles equipped with proprietary self-driving technology. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and careful attention to detail. Operators support the development of autonomous systems and must reach training milestones both in and out of the vehicle. What you will do Drive autonomous test vehicles in both manual and autonomous modes for up to 8 hours a day, following safety and operational protocols in a variety of traffic conditions. Use Nuro’s proprietary software to collect data in real-world scenarios and share detailed feedback with engineering teams. Troubleshoot operational issues as they occur, collaborating with the Mission Operations (dispatch) team to resolve problems and achieve mileage targets. Perform routine vehicle checks before and after each mission. Handle basic vehicle upkeep, including washing and inflating tires. Occasionally interact with members of the public to share information about autonomous vehicle technology. Represent Nuro by conducting safe, professional ridealongs for senior leaders and stakeholders, answering questions and communicating clearly.
