Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is actively seeking a Senior Software Developer in Bioinformatics and Big Data to enhance our initiatives with the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a full-time position based on-site at NIH-NCBI in Bethesda, MD, with the potential for remote work.
As the leading biomedical resource in the nation, NCBI is on the lookout for a talented software developer to contribute to the development of biological sequence annotation and data curation infrastructure. These systems are vital to the foremost sequence and biomedical literature repositories, with NCBI serving over four million users daily who seek gene sequence data, biomedical journal citations, and other crucial information that advances biomedical research and public health. Our annotation pipelines not only assist specialized communities but also foster innovative discoveries in life sciences, including medical health, public health, and basic research in computational biology and bioinformatics.
On a technical level, NCBI manages a diverse range of applications and platforms (including Node.js, Python, Django, and C++) across extensive big data environments, processing petabyte-scale data and operating on multiple cloud platforms. We adhere to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and are pioneers in civic tech and cloud computing.
This role demands more than just coding expertise; it requires collaboration with subject-matter experts, user researchers, designers, product managers, scientists, security, and DevOps engineers.
