Join Huawei Canada as a Senior Researcher in our Advanced Optical Technology Lab!

About Our Team:

Our lab is at the forefront of cutting-edge R&D in high-performance optical communications and networking. With a focus on transmission algorithms, systems physics, and advanced optical network management, our dedicated team thrives on innovation and collaboration. We engage in an array of projects that span from deep research initiatives to the development of essential product features, contributing actively to standards organizations and collaborative research efforts. Our diverse and multicultural environment encourages creativity, mentorship, and a relentless passion for learning. If you are eager to tackle complex technical challenges, we invite you to be part of our dynamic team.

Your Role:

  • Develop and enhance both stochastic and deterministic models for atmospheric channel characterization, focusing on laser beam propagation through turbulence, including effects such as scintillation, beam wander, and phase noise, as well as weather-induced attenuation from fog, rain, and haze.

  • Design and optimize hardware and software-based impairment mitigation techniques, including:

o Adaptive Optics (AO): Implementation of wavefront sensing and correction methods.

o Spatial & Temporal Diversity: Configuration of MIMO systems and aperture averaging strategies.

o Signal Processing: Techniques like Forward Error Correction (FEC), interleaving, and Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC).

  • Construct comprehensive simulation frameworks using MATLAB, Python, or C++ to assess system performance metrics (BER, Outage Probability, SNR) across various atmospheric conditions.

  • Translate theoretical models into practical design specifications for optical terminals, guiding decisions on laser wavelengths, tracking systems, and receiver sensitivities.

  • Engage in thought leadership by contributing to high-impact publications and staying informed on emerging trends in optical wireless communications.
