Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for engaging with technical and non-technical audiences.

Noah’s Ark Lab, established in 2012, drives research at Huawei Technologies Canada Co., Ltd. The lab works at the intersection of academia and industry, advancing artificial intelligence and related fields. Its projects span large language models (LLMs), reinforcement learning (RL), natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, AI theory, and autonomous driving. The team focuses on long-term research with practical impact, integrating new discoveries into products and services.

Role Overview

The Senior Principal Researcher will shape the research direction for AI algorithms at the Markham, Ontario site. This role sets the vision for AI agents, embodied AI, and reasoning-centric large language models. The position combines technical leadership with hands-on research and collaboration across teams.

What You Will Do

  • Define and drive the research strategy and technical roadmap for AI agents, embodied AI, and reasoning-focused LLMs.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary research team, fostering a culture of scientific rigor, creativity, and fast iteration.
  • Translate research breakthroughs into scalable, production-ready AI systems, working closely with engineering and product groups.
  • Advance the state of the art by conducting original research and establishing internal best practices.
  • Identify new research directions through collaboration with leading academic and industry labs.
  • Oversee research investments, infrastructure, and resource allocation to support long-term goals.
  • Act as a thought leader by publishing research, giving keynote talks, and contributing to the global AI community.
