About the job
Huawei Canada is excited to announce a permanent opportunity for a Senior Principal Researcher!
About Our Team:
At the Human-Machine Interaction Lab, we bring together top global talent to revolutionize the interaction between humanity and technology. Our focus on innovation and user-centric design strives to elevate human-computer interaction research. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and designers collaborates to create groundbreaking interactive systems, sensing technologies, wearable devices, IoT systems, and multimodal interfaces. We are committed to delivering impactful products and pioneering research aimed at enhancing user experiences with technology.
Position Overview:
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive vision for next-generation AI agent-focused multimodal interaction systems, defining agent capabilities in perception, reasoning, and action through diverse signals (voice, vision, touch, context).
Craft interaction models that prioritize agent autonomy and collaboration, shifting away from traditional GUI/VUI to intent-driven, context-aware interactions.
Oversee the design of cohesive multimodal experiences across various platforms (mobile, automotive, wearables, smart environments), ensuring consistency and adaptability.
Direct the integration of advanced multimodal foundation models (such as VLM and multimodal LLMs) into practical interaction systems.
Rapidly iterate from concept to deployable solutions, assessing usability, latency, feedback loops, and real-world performance prior to launch.
Identify and capitalize on opportunities to unify interaction frameworks across modalities, minimizing fragmentation among voice, visual, and physical interfaces.
Drive holistic experience design, encompassing perception, reasoning, response, and user feedback rather than focusing solely on isolated component enhancements.
Remain knowledgeable about emerging industry trends (e.g., AI agents, multimodal interfaces) and integrate them into our research and development processes.
