Requirements:Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field; candidates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience will also be considered. AICP certification preferred or in progress. Comprehensive understanding of municipal planning principles, zoning, and public engagement practices. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to elected officials, boards, and the public. Proficient presentation and facilitation abilities. Strong graphic and visualization skills to enhance plans and community engagement. Self-driven with a strong desire to learn and grow. Outgoing personality, adept at working with diverse community stakeholders.

Our dedicated planning team collaborates closely with municipalities to provide innovative planning and zoning support, fostering community strength and sustainable development. We specialize in a wide array of services including community planning, area and neighborhood planning, zoning and land use regulations, revitalization strategies, environmental planning, grant services, and impactful community engagement.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in municipal planning, showcasing expertise in comprehensive planning, zoning, public engagement, and effective implementation strategies that assist Virginia communities in realizing their long-term goals. Exceptional writing, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills are crucial for success in this role.

We seek a self-motivated, collaborative individual who is enthusiastic about contributing to municipal planning endeavors. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing detailed reports and analyses, encompassing comprehensive plans, land use studies, and neighborhood or downtown revitalization strategies.
  • Leading and facilitating public meetings, workshops, and engagement events to gather meaningful community feedback.
  • Drafting and revising zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, and other land use tools.
  • Preparing and managing grant applications to support municipal projects and programs.
  • Overseeing project management, including scheduling, budgets, deliverables, and communication with municipal clients.
  • Nurturing and maintaining relationships with municipal clients, including the preparation of proposals and presentations to boards and councils.
