Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Experience in the installation and operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers. Preferred Qualifications:A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is typically required. Preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management. Knowledge of data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, ANSI/BICSI 002.Professional certifications related to HVAC engineering, such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), or LEED accreditation, are advantageous. Professional Engineer (P. E.) registration is preferred.

AECOM is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Data Center and Mission Critical team, specifically for the eastern region. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of the tech sector, along with expertise in the mission-critical and data center industries, focusing on the essential requirements of scale, speed, and consistency.

This role provides the flexibility of remote work and can be performed from various locations across the U. S. where AECOM has an office.

While the position primarily allows for remote work, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, key project milestones, collaborative onsite sessions, or other critical business activities. Travel will be pre-scheduled and expected to be infrequent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of Data Center Heat Rejection and HVAC Systems: Create tailored Heat Rejection and HVAC systems for data centers, taking into account cooling requirements, cooling loads, system flexibility for future changes, airflow management, humidity control, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Selection of Cooling Systems: Determine the most suitable air/water side cooling systems for data centers, including options such as Fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, and containment solutions, based on the specific cooling needs and equipment criticality.
  • CFD Analysis: Perform internal and external Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize airflow and cooling efficiency, analyze hotspots, and recommend design modifications to enhance system performance.
