Qualifications:A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required. Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer with 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, particularly in solid waste or related projects. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player, passionate about engineering and project management, and capable of leading projects from the planning phase through design and construction. Strong communication skills are necessary for effectively mentoring junior staff and engaging with project team members, regulators, and clients. Willingness to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region is required.

Join our dedicated team at LaBella Associates as a Senior Landfill Engineer, based in our Birmingham, AL office within the Waste & Recycling Division. We specialize in providing comprehensive solid waste engineering, environmental, and construction services to our clients in the solid waste sector. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in planning and designing innovative solutions while mentoring and guiding junior engineering staff. Your leadership will ensure that multi-disciplinary teams effectively manage complex and rewarding projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, scheduling, development, coordination, and management of diverse design and master planning projects, encompassing a range of intricate features.
  • Oversee solid waste-related site development initiatives, including landfills, transfer stations, and convenience sites, which involve creating master plans, design drawings, stormwater management systems, erosion control systems, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare a variety of related reports and studies and facilitate project permitting.
  • Develop and assess plans and criteria for various projects, coordinating activities among in-house engineers, designers, geologists, and external consultants.
  • Mentor and teach junior staff located in multiple Mid-Atlantic offices.
  • Travel to client sites and other offices to gain insights into site conditions, design considerations, and to oversee construction progress.
