About the job

Join Our Innovative Team

At ColdQuanta, we are at the forefront of commercializing quantum technology, transforming ambitious ideas into deployable systems where photonics drives performance, scalability, and reliability. Our dedicated photonics team specializes in the development of integrated photonics circuits (PICs) and advanced optical subsystems, paving the way for chip-scale laser sources, modulation, routing, and control that support the next generation of quantum products. We collaborate closely with quantum systems teams and external partners to ensure that our optical performance targets translate into manufacturable hardware.

Your Role

We are looking for a Senior Photonics Design, Layout & Modeling Engineer who will take charge of designing and delivering cutting-edge photonic integrated circuits and subassemblies. This role emphasizes simulation-driven design, meticulous layout verification, and rapid experimental feedback, allowing for an agile development process.

As a key contributor, you will manage aspects of PIC design from concept to tapeout and testing. This includes translating system requirements into photonic components (such as passives, couplers, resonators, filters, modulators), executing rigorous electromagnetic/photonic modeling, and collaborating with our lab team to characterize devices and implement iterative improvements.

If you are a motivated individual who excels in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment and has a passion for solving complex problems that lead to impactful technological advancements, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of high-performance photonic components and PIC layouts that meet stringent specifications (loss, bandwidth, phase stability, power handling, crosstalk, yield).
  • Develop simulation-to-layout workflows that expedite design cycles (including PDK integration, reusable parameterized cells, and verification automation).
  • Ensure tapeout readiness through effective coordination and alignment with foundry partners, mask submission requirements, and post-tapeout debugging.
  • Collaborate with lab teams to define test plans, analyze data, troubleshoot discrepancies, and translate measurements into actionable design enhancements.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to ensure that PIC-level design choices align with system-level performance, reliability, and manufacturability objectives.
