About the job

About 1X

At 1X, we are pioneers in AI and robotics, headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Our mission is to cultivate a future of abundance through the development of general-purpose robots that can autonomously perform a wide array of tasks.

We are dedicated to creating humanoid robots that learn and adapt by living alongside humans, seamlessly integrating into everyday life. Our vision is to foster a collaborative relationship between humans and robots, leading to a smarter, more capable society.

We seek innovative, motivated, and passionate individuals eager to influence the future of robotics and AI. If our mission resonates with you, we would love to connect and discuss how you can be a part of our transformative journey.

Role Overview

We are in search of a skilled Firmware / Embedded Engineer to spearhead the development and maintenance of low-level firmware that underpins our system-level hardware architecture. This role will emphasize the creation of robust, maintainable, and well-structured embedded software that spans various hardware domains and directly influences architectural decisions.

You will collaborate closely with hardware architects, electrical engineers, systems engineers, and test engineers to ensure that firmware effectively connects hardware capabilities with higher-level system requirements across both prototype and production platforms.

Our humanoid robot features over 20 distributed embedded nodes that must communicate deterministically, operate fail-safely, and function continuously in uncontrolled environments. This role represents a new frontier in product development where conventional playbooks are a starting point; however, many encountered challenges require innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will excel in reasoning from first principles, comfortably navigating the interface between firmware and hardware, and will be motivated by the pursuit of novel solutions to complex problems.

About 1X
