Role overview
The Senior Engineering Manager, Developer Experience, leads the Delivery Enablement group and oversees four teams: Developer Tooling (Caproni), Observability Enablement, Performance Enablement, and Development Analytics. The main goal is to create a unified, Kubernetes-first platform that supports GitLab.com, Dedicated, and various self-managed deployments. GitLab takes a different approach by combining cloud and on-premise solutions under one platform vision.
In the first year, this leader will set technical direction, improve execution, and ensure teams follow shared platform standards. The role reports to the Director of Delivery Enablement.
What you will do
- Lead and support four engineering teams focused on developer tooling, observability, performance, and analytics
- Develop and communicate a clear technical vision for a Kubernetes-first platform that supports multiple deployment models
- Clarify technical direction and align teams with unified standards
- Balance people management with hands-on technical leadership
- Make informed decisions in a changing environment, driving transparency and accountability
Requirements
- Background in platform engineering and developer productivity
- Experience working across cloud and on-premise environments
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, and AI-powered workflows
- Interest in leading teams at the intersection of technology and people management

This remote position is open to candidates based in Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
