About the job
About Slip Robotics
At Slip Robotics, we are pioneering the future of freight logistics through cutting-edge autonomous robotic systems designed to load and unload trailers with unmatched speed, safety, and reliability. Our innovative robots thrive in complex real-world settings, working seamlessly alongside human operators and heavy cargo daily. As a small yet highly impactful team based in Atlanta, we are dedicated to developing products that are actively transforming the industry.
The Role
We are seeking a Robotics Perception Engineer to take charge of the sensing and perception stack for our autonomous mobile robots. This role requires you to leverage various sensor modalities—including LiDAR, cameras, and IMUs—to provide our robots with a dependable understanding of their surroundings, which encompasses trailers, pallets, dock infrastructure, and personnel. This is a hands-on role with direct impact, where your contributions will go live on production robots functioning in real freight environments.
The ideal candidate will have experience deploying software on actual robots in customer settings. You should possess a strong background in developing perception systems that operate reliably in both unstructured and semi-structured environments, and you should be adept at troubleshooting sensor issues on physical hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain the perception pipeline for autonomous mobile robots, encompassing object detection, segmentation, localization, and mapping.
- Integrate and calibrate LiDAR, depth cameras, and other sensors on production robot platforms.
- Develop robust point cloud processing and filtering methods for reliable operation.
- Build and sustain sensor fusion systems that amalgamate multiple modalities for precise environmental understanding.
- Create and manage datasets for training, validating, and testing perception models.
- Work collaboratively with navigation, controls, and hardware teams to ensure perception outputs align with downstream requirements.
- Debug and resolve perception failures on deployed robots using logs, recorded sensor data, and on-site investigation.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for testing and deploying perception software.
