Key ResponsibilitiesPrototype algorithms and systems to create natural, aesthetically pleasing motions for humanoid robots, encompassing locomotion, object manipulation, and expressive gestures. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to seamlessly integrate animation systems into our robotic platforms, ensuring compatibility with hardware constraints and performance specifications. Optimize animation systems for performance, scalability, and reliability in real-world applications. Stay updated on the latest advancements in robotics, animation technology, and artificial intelligence, applying innovative techniques to enhance robotic motion and interactivity. Required Skills & QualificationsEducation/Background: Ph. D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience (e.g., Master’s degree with 3+ years in video games or interactive animation). Technical Expertise:In-depth understanding of kinematics and motion planning for humanoid characters/robots. Experience with real-time character animation systems and physics-based simulation (as utilized in video game character controllers). Proficient in leveraging motion capture data to develop kinematic controllers. Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and C++. Animation Skills:Hands-on experience with technical aspects of character animation and related tools.

Join our innovative team at Fauna Robotics as a Robot Animation Scientist / Engineer. In this dynamic role, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge animation systems for humanoid robots. Your primary focus will be on the design, implementation, and optimization of motion algorithms and animation tools that enable our robotic characters to exhibit expressive and functional movements in real-world environments. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in whole-body control of virtual characters for real-time, interactive applications, such as video games. Your contributions will be instrumental in propelling advancements in robotics, allowing robots to engage joyfully and competently with their surroundings while ensuring safety around humans.

Applicants are expected to provide a portfolio showcasing academic research (including publications in SIGGRAPH) on character animation or relevant industry experience in developing video game character controllers.
