About the job
Rainmaker creates cloud seeding technology aimed at improving water availability and addressing difficult weather patterns. The company’s work brings together radar validation, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), numerical weather modeling, and environmentally mindful seeding materials to help increase precipitation.
The engineering team focuses on advancing UAS platforms, developing dispersion payloads, and building both in-situ and remote sensing systems. Projects move quickly and are designed for practical, real-world results.
Role overview
This Research Engineer in Aerosol & Spray Systems role is suited for those with a background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, especially with expertise in aerosol science, multiphase flow, and compressible fluid dynamics. The position sits at the intersection of cloud physics and advanced fluid systems. Work centers on designing hardware that applies high-velocity gas dynamics to break up nanoparticle agglomerates and atomize liquid precursors into submicron aerosols.
Key challenges
- Efficient dispersion of cohesive dry powders and ultra-fine droplets
- Managing complex mass transfer and the momentum of particles or droplets
- Solving mechanical problems while meeting strict aerospace Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constraints
Location
This role is based in El Segundo, CA.
