Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience; ORAt least five years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Qualifications and Skills:Master's or PhD with 1-3 years of relevant experience (postdoctoral research considered) is highly preferred. Proficient understanding of essential molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA purification, PCR/RT-PCR amplification), familiarity with microscopy (e.g., light microscopy, immunofluorescence), and cell or tissue biology (e.g., tissue culture, histology). Experience with tissue sectioning methods, including cryosectioning or handling formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples, is highly desirable. Strong teamwork capability. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

The Single Cell Core (SCC) at Harvard Medical School is on the lookout for a Research Core Scientist to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will partner closely with the SCC Director to master single-cell RNA-sequencing and spatial transcriptomics techniques. This role involves executing experiments, working collaboratively with researchers to maximize the utility of valuable data derived from rare samples, and optimizing and validating novel technologies across a diverse range of genomics workflows. We seek an innovative, detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and exceptional communication abilities, capable of presenting findings in group lab meetings and regional scientific conferences. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge methodologies at the forefront of next-generation sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, while also providing valuable experience in project management and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently conduct intricate single-cell and spatial transcriptomics experiments using various technologies. Manage library preparation and quality control processes. Regularly update and report on experimental progress to users, collaborating with the Director to troubleshoot errors and enhance workflows.
  • Work alongside researchers to design and implement complex experiments utilizing rare samples. As a leading expert in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics at HMS, assist in validating and refining experimental protocols to establish efficient custom workflows, while offering expertise during data analysis and interpretation.
  • Provide training to faculty, trainees, and other staff members on single-cell and spatial transcriptomics instrumentation.
  • Organize and lead promotional and outreach initiatives, including workshops and user group meetings.
  • Oversee core maintenance tasks, including supply procurement, equipment upkeep, and database management. Perform additional duties as necessary, such as billing and administrative tasks.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
