Job Summary:

The Research Assistant III will play a vital role in the Ramanathan lab at Harvard University, collaborating closely with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. This position involves conducting scientific experiments in the specialized field of stem cell biology and human development with a high degree of independence. The successful candidate will coordinate various facets of ongoing research projects, execute laboratory experiments using advanced techniques and equipment, and manage collaborations with external laboratories as necessary. This role may also include the training of new lab members in established scientific methods.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate multiple aspects of research projects and perform laboratory experiments utilizing specific techniques and equipment.

  • Generate cortical tissue from various cell lines, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells), embryonic stem cells, and a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) line.

  • Conduct genetic modifications, manage passaging, and maintain both parental and modified fluorescent reporter lines.

  • Utilize cell printing, optimize differentiation protocols for each cell line, and prepare tissues for shipment to collaborators working with primates.

  • Prepare samples for single-cell transcriptomics and validate them using antibody staining techniques.

  • Set up incubators and shakers, monitor differentiation processes, and establish a robust experimental pipeline.

  • Collaborate with lab members on experimental design, protocol establishment, and the development of innovative laboratory techniques.

  • Process, organize, summarize, and analyze data; report results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet, or statistical software applications.

  • May provide training and guidance to others in laboratory techniques and procedures.

  • Assist with laboratory maintenance tasks, including the procurement of equipment and supplies, liaising with vendors, and engaging in special projects as required.


Working Conditions:

  • This position is primarily performed in a laboratory environment on the Cambridge campus.
  • Involves working with hazardous materials and human cell cultures.


Physical Requirements:

  • May require lifting, moving, and transporting research equipment.
