THE ROLE

As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant at VEG, you will play a vital role from day one. Your responsibilities will include supporting your team, comforting anxious pet parents, and gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. You will participate in triage, treatment, and all aspects of patient care, setting you on a path toward a rewarding career in veterinary medicine. Whether you aim to become a credentialed technician or explore your passion, we are here to support your professional growth every step of the way.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a warm welcome and support to incoming patients, assisting in triage to guide them toward appropriate care.
  • Assist with various treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
  • Collaborate with our skilled veterinary technicians and veterinarians in setting up and monitoring anesthesia and sedation cases.
  • Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
  • Participate in patient care across various settings, from outpatient visits to inpatient treatments.
  • Engage in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
  • Learn CPR and obtain RECOVER Certification as a Rescuer (training provided).
  • Advance into higher responsibilities as your skills develop.
