About the job

Phasecraft is a pioneering company in the realm of quantum algorithms, dedicated to laying the mathematical groundwork for quantum computing applications that tackle real-world challenges. Established in 2019 by visionaries Toby Cubitt, Ashley Montanaro, and John Morton, our headquarters are located in London and Bristol, UK. In 2023, we successfully completed a £13 million Series A funding round, spearheaded by the esteemed Silicon Valley deep tech venture capital firm, Playground Global.

Our unparalleled access to the most advanced quantum computers today—thanks to strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Google, IBM, and Rigetti—affords us unique opportunities to cultivate foundational intellectual property, guide the development of next-generation quantum hardware, and expedite the commercialization of significant breakthroughs.

We are actively seeking a talented Quantum Algorithms Scientist to become an integral part of our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the theory of algorithms for gate-model quantum computers or related fields in quantum computing theory, quantum information theory, or other relevant areas of quantum theory. You will play a vital role in advancing Phasecraft’s mission to develop quantum algorithms optimized for near-term quantum computers, covering topics such as algorithm optimization and design, quantum codes, resource analysis, error mitigation, and hardware benchmarking. This position offers the chance to expand your research portfolio across the diverse interests of Phasecraft.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct theoretical and/or applied research on near-term quantum computing algorithms, applications, and/or enabling theoretical technologies.
  • Contribute to the authorship of publications, presentations, patent applications, and other outputs resulting from research endeavors.
  • Collaborate effectively within a small team comprising full-time staff and affiliated PhD students.
  • Engage in additional activities as needed to foster the growth and success of Phasecraft.
