About the job
Join Phasecraft, the pioneering quantum algorithms company, where we are establishing the mathematical frameworks necessary for quantum computing applications that address pressing real-world challenges. Founded in 2019 by industry leaders Toby Cubitt, Ashley Montanaro, and John Morton, we have offices in London and Bristol, along with a recently opened location in Washington DC, driven by Steve Flammia. In 2023, we successfully secured $17 million in Series A funding from the prominent Silicon Valley deep tech venture capital firm, Playground Global.
Our exceptional access to the leading quantum computers today, through collaborations with Google, IBM, Quantinuum, and QuEra, grants us unparalleled opportunities to develop foundational intellectual property, guide the evolution of next-generation quantum hardware, and expedite the commercialization of significant breakthroughs.
We are seeking a dedicated Quantum Algorithms Scientist to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will possess experience in the theory and/or implementation of optimization algorithms tailored for gate-model quantum computers, classical optimization, or constraint satisfaction algorithms, or demonstrate notable potential in these domains. Initially, this role will concentrate on these specific areas, with the opportunity to expand into a diverse portfolio of research activities aligned with Phasecraft's broader interests. While a background in quantum computing is not strictly necessary, successful candidates will need to demonstrate their capacity to conceptualize and implement advanced algorithms focusing on optimization and constraint satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct theoretical and applied research and software development for immediate quantum computing applications, focusing initially on quantum algorithms and software for combinatorial optimization and constraint satisfaction challenges.
- Contribute to the authorship of publications, presentations, patents, and other outcomes derived from research.
- Collaborate within a compact team composed of full-time staff and affiliated PhD students.
- Engage with stakeholders on collaborations applying quantum computing to optimization issues.
- Participate in additional activities as required to foster the growth and success of Phasecraft.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
• Quantum information and/or computation theory
• Theory and implementation of classical optimization or constraint satisfaction algorithms
• Quantum algorithm design and implementation
• Mathematical analysis of algorithms
- Demonstrated success in independently managing research projects.
- An impressive publication record and deep expertise in the relevant field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, capable of conveying research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to work across various aspects of quantum algorithms and related fields.
