About the job
About the Role
Join our Engineering team as a Project Engineer, where you will be pivotal in propelling solar and distributed generation initiatives from the initial development phase to a construction-ready design. Collaborating closely with our Development, Construction, and third-party engineering teams, you will carry the technical responsibilities that transform project concepts into permitted, optimized systems, ensuring precision, efficiency, and value throughout every project stage.
What You’ll Own
- Site Due Diligence – Lead and supervise environmental analyses, surveys, and geotechnical investigations; manage contracts for third-party diligence work on active development projects.
- Engineering Design – Analyze site data and create civil, electrical, and structural design drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Virto, either independently or in collaboration with external engineers.
- System Optimization – Refine designs to determine the best equipment, layout, and system configuration that maximizes energy yield and overall project value.
- Energy Modeling – Construct detailed energy models in PVSyst, incorporating 3D shading scenarios, soiling calculations, site-specific losses, and carefully chosen weather data.
- Permitting & Construction Drawings – Oversee the creation of permit and construction-level drawings across all disciplines, ensuring compliance with codes, AHJ and utility standards, and alignment with Madison’s technical specifications.
- Project Administration – Manage RFIs, submittals, bids, contracts, and budgets using Procore; identify value engineering opportunities throughout the project's lifecycle while adhering to defined budget, schedule, and scope.
What Will Help You Succeed
(You don’t need to fulfill every criterion, but the following will aid your success.)
- Education – Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; a background in Electrical Engineering is preferred, although Mechanical, Civil, and Energy Engineering candidates have also excelled in this role.
- Experience – 3+ years of experience in designing and permitting photovoltaic construction projects or relevant experience in a similar field.
- Technical Skills – Proficient in AutoCAD and PVSyst (or equivalent energy modeling software); familiarity with Procore or similar project management platforms is beneficial.
- Design Judgment – Ability to make informed decisions based on site due diligence and design considerations.
