This position is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.Hybrid-Remote arrangement (Tuesday and Wednesday in the office/field)

The Project Controls Estimator I will play a pivotal role in consolidating scope and cost for projects valued between ~$25M to $1B+. This role involves ensuring adherence to governance processes and supporting the Project Manager in securing executive approvals throughout the project lifecycle. In addition to collating and reporting estimated project costs, the estimator will respond to regulatory and legal inquiries related to these estimates, functioning as a subject matter expert on estimation methodologies and risk applications.

  • Collaborate with Project Management, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Regulatory teams to:
  • Plan and manage the process of gathering scope and cost for project evaluations at each stage gate from various disciplines.
  • Analyze cost estimates to ensure alignment with historical benchmarks for similar projects, investigating any discrepancies with estimators.
  • Manage documentation for stage gate updates and regulatory submissions.
  • Conduct peer reviews of project estimates with minimal supervision.
  • Create cost estimates for Transmission & Distribution Substations, Substation Rebuilds/Expansions, Major Equipment Replacements, Protection Upgrades/SA3, and new Customer Substations.
  • Prepare scope take-offs based on design specifications, meeting minutes, and electrical & civil drawings.
  • Estimate material and labor costs while adhering to established estimating standards and prepare estimates using Cost Estimating Tools such as SCMT and InEight.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders to review cost estimates and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis for cost estimates at various stages of the project lifecycle.
