About the job

About the Cambridge Boston Alignment Initiative

The Cambridge Boston Alignment Initiative (CBAI) is a pioneering nonprofit research organization dedicated to promoting research and education aimed at facilitating a safe and beneficial transition to advanced AI systems. Our mission is realized through original research efforts and the acceleration of AI safety initiatives via our fellowship programs.

Since our inaugural summer fellowship cohort, we have successfully published innovative research, including a spotlight paper at the Mechanistic Interpretability Workshop at NeurIPS and accepted papers at ICLR. Some of our talented fellows have secured positions at organizations such as Goodfire and Redwood Research. Following our successful launch in 2025, we are rapidly expanding in 2026, planning to host multiple fellowship cycles (Fall, Spring, and Summer), double the fellowship cohort, and quadruple our team size.

We invite you to refer candidates to us, and earn $5,000 upon their successful hiring.

The Role

As the foundational organizer of CBAI's AIxBio Research Fellowship, you will play a crucial role at the intersection of AI and biosecurity. You will take charge of the strategic and operational vision of the AIxBio program, oversee the AIxBio Research Managers, lead mentor recruitment, and cultivate the AIxBio fellowship into a sustainable and impactful research environment in Cambridge. Collaborating closely with CBAI's Director of Programs and organizational leaders, you will ensure the AIxBio program aligns with CBAI's broader mission and infrastructure, as well as with the CBAI AI safety fellowship program.

Program Strategy & Development (0.7 FTE)

  • Own the strategic vision and drive continuous improvement of the AIxBio Research Fellowship across all cycles.

  • Design the program comprehensively, from the fellow selection process to integrating stakeholder feedback into program design.

  • Establish program structures—mentor matching, fellow selection criteria, research goal frameworks, and cohort programming—in collaboration with CBAI's Research Program Associate and research managers.

  • Develop evaluation frameworks to assess fellow outcomes and program effectiveness.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance CBAI's presence within the Cambridge biosecurity research community.

  • Collaborate with CBAI program leadership to ensure cross-program alignment and coherence.
