ResponsibilitiesCollaborate closely with Substrate’s technical team to conceptualize, design, prototype, and characterize nanofabricated optical devices. Engage in hands-on fabrication of MEMS/NEMS devices utilizing techniques such as photo- and electron beam lithography, thin film deposition, and both wet and dry etching. Iterate through structural designs and fine-tune lithography, deposition, and etch parameters to optimize processes and enhance performance. Conduct mechanical, optical, and chemical characterization of thin films through methods such as profilometry, ellipsometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Assess pattern fidelity and resolution utilizing techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Contribute conceptual ideas for fabrication strategies, including process flow design, material compatibility studies, and CAD mask layout.

Job Summary

As a Process Engineer, you will play a vital role in prototyping essential components of our platform through advanced process development and materials characterization. This position involves hands-on engagement in various cleanroom and user facilities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, where you will perform a combination of micro- and nanofabrication alongside material and structural characterization. Your responsibilities will encompass numerous nanofabrication methods, including but not limited to lithography, wet and dry deposition, and etching techniques.

You will also be instrumental in the establishment of Substrate’s internal research facilities, contributing significantly to the early-stage development and testing that is crucial to our ambitious mission of reshaping the semiconductor landscape for years to come.
