As a Principal Engineer on our Engine Networking Team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing player experiences by ensuring seamless communication of game states. Your expertise in networking and asset loading will be crucial in delivering smooth, near-synchronous gameplay experiences, as you dive into various aspects of our game platform striving for real-time connectivity across Roblox.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a talented team of engineers with over 8 years of industry experience
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of game networking, with a keen interest in open-source technologies
  • Bring experience in asset loading, rendering, and networking, ideally from a Game Engine/Studio background (Desirable)
  • Exhibit exceptional systems-level C++ programming skills, with a fascination for CPU operations involving smart pointers, templates, and memory management
  • Have a meticulous approach to optimizing network exchanges, focusing on minimizing latency and maximizing efficiency
  • Possess an understanding of operating system interactions upon code execution

We seek candidates who have:

  • Experience working on the core architecture of a multiplayer game engine, addressing challenges related to scalability, performance, latency, and throughput in client/server models
  • Engaged with large-scale multithreaded distributed systems that connect millions of users globally
  • Worked across various devices supported by Roblox, including desktop, mobile, and console clients
