Are You Ready to Redefine What's Possible?We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:A robust background in marine ecology with proven experience in preparing and reviewing specialized technical reports and impact assessments, including EIA, HRA, MCZ, and WFD. In-depth understanding of UK marine consenting and licensing frameworks, with experience liaising with and submitting applications to key regulatory bodies such as the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), Natural Resources Wales (NRW), Scottish Marine Directorate, and The Crown Estate. Ability to offer technical guidance and apply advanced scientific methodologies and technologies across a wide spectrum of marine projects. Experience in marine field surveys is advantageous, particularly in benthic, fish, shellfish, and marine mammal assessments. Proven team leadership experience, including mentoring and developing junior team members. Business development acumen with a focus on expanding the marine ecology practice.

We invite you to be a part of our innovative Nature team as a Principal Marine Ecologist in one of our UK and Ireland offices, including locations such as Basingstoke, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge, and Dublin. Our flexible hybrid working model allows you to find the perfect balance between office and remote work. In this role, you will have the chance to apply your extensive skills and expertise on both national and international projects across various sectors, including prestigious power and infrastructure initiatives (such as floating offshore wind), interconnectors, habitat restoration, flood defence projects, and coastal developments like marinas and ports.

Your responsibilities will include collaborating with our team of marine and aquatic ecologists and marine Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) specialists to enhance the marine ecology team's growth and expand our portfolio of high-profile marine projects. You will engage directly with clients, manage technical project delivery, and contribute to business development efforts, reporting to the Marine Ecology Lead.

Your Role Highlights:

  • Subject Matter Expert: Deliver expert marine ecological and consenting advice, guiding diverse workstreams and project deliverables within the full EIA or Development Consent Order (DCO) cycle. Conduct marine ecology impact assessments, including Environmental Statement chapters and associated assessments (HRA, MCZ, WFD), while supporting licensing and permitting applications for marine projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Utilize your keen attention to detail to ensure our deliverables meet the highest quality standards and adhere to rigorous quality management protocols. Exceptional writing and communication skills are essential for conveying complex scientific information effectively to varied audiences.
  • Collaboration: Work within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the environmental performance of our projects, collaborating with experts in underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water sciences, and marine archaeology, alongside EIA colleagues.
  • Business Growth: Play an integral role in expanding the marine ecology team’s reach. This includes creating technical and fee proposals, engaging in marketing strategies, and confidently presenting to both internal and external audiences while fostering client relationships.
  • Project Management: Exhibit strong project management skills to oversee successful project execution, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
