Position Overview

SEARCH is actively seeking a dedicated Principal Investigator to lead and enhance projects within the Southwest region, particularly in Arizona and New Mexico. This role is based in Tucson, AZ, and is pivotal in driving project success and managing staff.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in cultural resource management and significant experience in overseeing archaeological projects. Exceptional technical writing skills are essential for producing comprehensive reports for federal, state, and tribal agencies, in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, among other preservation laws.

Key responsibilities include coordinating fieldwork, research, and laboratory tasks; ensuring timely and high-standard execution of fieldwork; preparing and reviewing technical reports; managing project staff; and developing Health & Safety plans. Candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the willingness to travel, are essential.

  • Design research frameworks and assemble research teams.
  • Oversee research initiatives, fieldwork, data analysis, and report generation to ensure alignment with project goals, budgets, timelines, and contractual obligations.
  • Advocate for and implement cutting-edge technology and methodologies.
  • Act as the principal author and researcher on technical reports.
  • Ensure the quality of all research outputs and project deliverables.
