AECOM is on the lookout for a Principal Engineer specializing in HV Substations Secondary to enhance our team in Spain.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the design and development of secondary electrical systems for various transmission and distribution projects. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following tasks based on project requirements:

  • Designing advanced protection and control systems, including relay settings, protection schemes, and interlock systems tailored for substations.
  • Creating single line diagrams (SLDs), protection logic diagrams, metering layouts, and cable termination diagrams.
  • Developing electrical interconnection diagrams, termination diagrams, cable schedules, and requisite documentation to facilitate the installation and operation of secondary systems.
  • Conducting relay coordination studies (overcurrent, earth fault, motor protection, distance protection), including calculations for relay settings and fault analysis.
  • Performing power system studies such as load flow analysis, short circuit studies, transient stability analysis, motor starting studies, and arc flash studies.
  • Formulating control and relay panel layouts, including general arrangement (GA) drawings, functional block diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Designing SCADA communication schemes and ensuring system integration for protection systems to facilitate seamless interaction between control and field devices.
  • Reviewing and verifying design documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards (IEC, IEEE) and utility specifications.
  • Providing support for commissioning and testing, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site integration of secondary systems.
  • Developing algorithms aimed at enhancing system functionality, such as fault detection and relay coordination to improve overall system stability.
  • Coordinating interdisciplinary efforts by collaborating with other engineering teams to ensure integration of secondary systems with primary infrastructure.
  • Preparing external connection tables, cable schedules, and other design documentation as specified by project requirements.
