About the job
AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is excited to invite applications for the role of Principal Engineer - HV Substations Primary to enhance our team in Spain.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of primary electrical systems for transmission and distribution projects. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Designing primary substation systems, featuring AIS/GIS configurations, transformer installations, circuit breaker selection, busbar arrangements, switchgear layouts, and disconnectors for voltages up to 800kV.
- Creating single-line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangement (GA) layouts, equipment sizing, and layout plans for substations and transmission systems.
- Conducting short-circuit force calculations, busbar sizing, fault current analysis, and equipment protection design to ensure system stability and safety under fault conditions.
- Designing earthing systems, including grounding layouts, ground grid systems, and lightning protection for substations.
- Integrating HVDC and HVAC systems, including converter stations, ensuring compatibility with the overall substation design.
- Developing transformer layouts, including oil containment, busduct routing, and secondary system interfaces.
- Optimizing substation layouts for both new and upgraded installations, considering space constraints, equipment accessibility, and construction considerations.
- Reviewing and developing control and protection systems for primary substations, ensuring coordination with secondary systems and compliance with grid operator requirements.
- Collaborating with civil engineering teams to design and integrate foundations, steel structures, and electrical cable routes for seamless integration with primary systems.
- Creating equipment specification documents, bill of materials (BOM), and providing procurement support to ensure the selection of appropriate equipment as per project needs.
- Preparing electrical interconnection diagrams, termination diagrams, cable schedules, and other supporting documentation for the installation and operation of primary systems.
- Conducting detailed design and reviews of auxiliary systems, such as cooling systems, auxiliary power supplies, and battery systems for substations.
- Designing underground cable systems, including sizing, routing, and integration into existing networks, particularly for HV cable systems.
- Coordinating with external vendors and contractors to ensure the supply and installation of equipment in line with design specifications and project requirements.
