Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience leading large design engineering teams focused on Grid Substation design in a global consultancy environment is preferred. Mandatory experience in HV Plant Design for large EHV Grid Substations. Desirable experience in design teams working with Grid Utilities such as National Grid, Transgrid, Transpower, or Powergrid. Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian Standards, and Middle East codes and standards) is preferred. Preferred experience in designing GIS and AIS EHV substation HV Plant Primary systems. Proficiency in the English language (both oral and written) is mandatory.

Join AECOM's Enterprise Capabilities as a Principal Engineer specializing in HV Substations Secondary in Poland!

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating and delivering designs for secondary electrical systems within transmission and distribution projects. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing protection and control systems, which encompass relay settings, protection schemes, and interlock systems for substations.
  • Preparing single line diagrams (SLDs), protection logic diagrams, metering layouts, and cable termination diagrams.
  • Creating electrical interconnection diagrams, termination diagrams, cable schedules, and other essential documentation for the effective installation and operation of secondary systems.
  • Conducting relay coordination studies (overcurrent, earth fault, motor protection, distance protection) including relay setting calculations and fault analysis.
  • Performing power system studies, such as load flow analysis, short circuit studies, transient stability analysis, motor starting studies, and arc flash studies.
  • Developing control and relay panel layouts, including general arrangement (GA) drawings, functional block diagrams, and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Designing SCADA communication schemes and ensuring system integration for protection systems to facilitate seamless interfacing between control and field devices.
  • Reviewing and verifying design documentation to guarantee compliance with industry standards (IEC, IEEE) and utility specifications.
  • Providing support during commissioning and testing phases, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site integration of secondary systems.
  • Creating algorithms to enhance system functionality, including fault detection, relay coordination, and stability improvement.
  • Coordinating across disciplines, collaborating with other engineering teams to ensure the integration of secondary systems with primary infrastructure.
  • Preparing external connection tables, cable schedules, and other design documentation as dictated by project specifications.
