Key ResponsibilitiesHands-On Development & Data Quality Assurance (~50%)Design and develop data analytics tools, automated validation frameworks, and dashboards that provide Finance Operations and Controllership with real-time insights into data integrity across enterprise systems. Leverage AI to quickly prototype, test, and implement these solutions. Enhance upstream data quality through cross-functional collaboration: work with source-system owners in Revenue Operations, Procurement, Human Resources, and Engineering to address data issues at their source. Manage data dictionaries, lineage documentation, and quality scorecards for essential controllership data assets. Develop and uphold master data management (MDM) standards. Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and IT on integration strategies, ensuring seamless data flow and adherence to governance standards.

Role overview

The Principal Data Scientist works within the Office of the Chief Accounting Officer in New York, NY. This position blends technical leadership with strong finance and accounting expertise. The core responsibility is to ensure AI developers, process owners, decision-makers, and auditors have access to clean, reliable, and audit-ready data.

Main responsibilities

  • Build data analytics tools and pipelines, dedicating about half of working time to these projects.
  • Use AI to accelerate development for large-scale efforts, such as mergers and acquisitions (M&A) integration, ERP system implementations, upstream data remediation, and SOX compliance.
  • Work closely with Controllership, Finance Operations, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Internal Audit, and Technology teams to advance AI, automation, and audit readiness.
  • Apply AI-assisted development tools, including code generation, copilots, and large language models, in daily tasks.

Collaboration and impact

This role partners with multiple departments to support strategic initiatives and establish the foundation for future automation and audit processes. The position plays a key part in shaping how data and AI drive Axon's finance and accounting operations.
