Are you ready to redefine what’s possible?Essential Requirements:Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE or equivalent) or equivalent experience demonstrating leadership and professional authority. Significant experience in delivering complex civil infrastructure projects, preferably in data centres, mission-critical settings, or large-scale developments. In-depth understanding of planning, highways, drainage, and utility approval processes. Proven experience as a Design Lead or Principal Technical Authority within multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with BIM modeling and processes, with experience in collaborative project platforms.

AECOM is on the lookout for a Principal Civil Engineer who will assume a pivotal role in steering technical excellence across various projects for our data centre clients. These projects encompass everything from site due diligence assessments and master planning to intricate design and construction support. This position is crucial for fostering business growth, nurturing client relationships, and advancing AECOM’s civil engineering capabilities within the data centre sector.

In this role, you will be part of a dynamic Civil Engineering Business Unit, collaborating with diverse professionals including ground engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, architects, project managers, environmental specialists, and surveyors both in the UK and internationally, all dedicated to our data centre project portfolio.

As an ambassador for AECOM within the Data Centres market sector, you will deliver expert civil engineering guidance throughout EMEA and within our global teams. You will contribute vital civil engineering expertise to the realization of data centre projects for major technology clients, ensuring technical excellence, resilience, and seamless integration across disciplines. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and globally, reinforcing AECOM’s standing in the Hyperscale and Co-location data centre market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic civil engineering leadership and technical governance for data centre projects, ensuring adherence to AECOM standards and regulatory mandates.
  • Lead, review, and authorize civil engineering infrastructure designs and specifications, crafting practical solutions for site development, earthworks, drainage, pavements, access, utility infrastructure, and all civil engineering works related to data centres.
  • Collaborate with other civil engineers and technical specialists to support the delivery of our data centre project portfolio, including ground engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, project managers, architects, and environmental consultants across the UK and our global operations.
  • Facilitate client engagement, business development initiatives, strategic asset planning, and sector thought leadership, while mentoring and developing civil engineers to enhance technical capabilities and delivery excellence within the Data Centres sector.
