Are you ready to challenge the boundaries of what’s achievable?We are looking for candidates who possess:Extensive experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller). In-depth understanding of Environment Agency requirements, including the preparation of flood forecasting models that are compatible with their Incident Management Forecasting Systems. Demonstrated expertise in applying and calibrating hydrological models for flood forecasting (e.g., Muskingum-Cunge, Probability Distribution Model). Exceptional analytical abilities, with experience in processing and analyzing hydrometric data, including gauge rating evaluations. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Proficient GIS skills (QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo). Practical knowledge of scripting (Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or similar) is advantageous. You should also possess a self-motivated attitude, with the capability to work independently when necessary, and thrive in collaborative team environments.

We are actively seeking a Principal or Associate to enhance our expanding Water team. In this pivotal technical position, you will lead teams focused on delivering real-time flood forecasting projects, while also playing a key role in the development of our services with the Environment Agency and other stakeholders.

While your primary responsibility will center around flood forecasting, you will have the chance to engage in broader hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Generate and evaluate Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, including the assessment of existing models and hydrometric data quality.
  • Develop, calibrate, and validate flood forecasting models (e.g., PDM, Flood Modeller).
  • Conduct non-real-time modelling and hydrological assessments using tools such as Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH hydrological methods.
  • Create and assess high-quality technical reports, detailing model construction and associated uncertainties.
  • Lead and participate in tenders for key clients.
  • Guide and mentor team members in their professional growth.
  • Establish strong relationships with clients and interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Remain informed about legislation and guidelines pertinent to our services.
  • Utilize AECOM’s project management systems to ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
