As an Oracle Database Administrator, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the reliability, performance, availability, and security of Oracle databases that underpin a critical nationwide government application. You will oversee daily operations and maintenance of Oracle environments, utilizing tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Audit Vault & Database Firewall (AVDF), and Oracle Data Guard to ensure high availability and compliance with security standards.
This position calls for a highly skilled, consultative professional who can work collaboratively with infrastructure and application teams, engage directly with customers, and follow ITIL-aligned processes. You will also be involved in performance optimization, implement enhancements, address operational issues, and support a 24/7 standby model to maintain continuous service for a vital government platform.
Your responsibilities will include managing both Oracle RAC and standalone environments across Production, Disaster Recovery, User Acceptance Testing, and Development systems, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery readiness, performance tuning, patching, and compliance while facilitating integration with storage, operating systems, and security platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations and Maintenance Activities:
- Administer Oracle RAC, standalone databases, and Oracle Grid Infrastructure.
- Conduct daily health checks, space monitoring, log review, and backup validation.
- Manage Oracle databases across all environments (Production, DR, UAT, Development).
- Oversee Oracle Data Guard for high availability and disaster recovery (monitoring, switchover, failover).
- Monitor databases using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and configure alerts.
- Configure and manage Oracle AVDF (Audit Vault and Database Firewall).
- Apply quarterly security patches and version upgrades using established change processes.
- Perform database cloning, refreshes, object deployments, and schema changes.
- Ensure reliable backup and recovery using RMAN; conduct periodic restore tests.
- Coordinate with OS and storage teams to troubleshoot performance and capacity issues.
- Review and optimize SQL queries.
Support and Coordination:
- Work closely with infrastructure and application teams to ensure integration, performance, and availability.
- Participate in change meetings, deployment planning, and disaster recovery exercises.
- Investigate and resolve incidents and problems; perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
- Collaborate with security teams for audits and enforcement of database security controls.
- Engage directly with government customer representatives to capture and deliver evolving requirements.
Consultation and Optimization:
- Analyze application query performance and provide tuning recommendations.
- Propose and implement improvements to database design, indexing, and architecture.
