Role Overview
As an Optical Laser Engineer at Aetherflux, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and optimization of high-power laser systems for our satellites. This role demands a strong foundation in laser physics, optical engineering, and space systems, with a particular emphasis on the integration of lasers into a spaceborne environment. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including mechanical, electrical, optical, software, and systems engineers, to advance the capabilities of laser power beaming from space to Earth.
Key Responsibilities
Laser System Design: Create high-power laser systems specifically designed for satellite applications, including fiber and semiconductor lasers.
Optical Modeling & Simulation: Employ optical design software to model and optimize the transmission of laser power.
Component Selection & Integration: Evaluate and select laser components (optics, gain media, etc.), integrating them into a cohesive payload system.
System Prototyping & Testing: Develop prototypes, conduct laboratory validations, and assess system performance against design specifications.
Thermal Management: Collaborate with thermal engineers to devise cooling solutions that ensure the stability and efficiency of the laser system.
Space Qualification & Reliability: Verify that laser systems fulfill spaceflight requirements, including radiation resistance, thermal vacuum performance, and mechanical robustness.
Innovation: Stay at the cutting edge of laser technology and industry trends, proposing innovative methods to enhance efficiency and power density.
Documentation: Produce comprehensive design documentation, consisting of design specifications, test plans, analysis reports, and operational and safety procedures.
Collaboration: Partner closely with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate laser systems with satellite power, control, and pointing mechanisms.
