The Office Assistant at Luminis Health supports daily operations in an ambulatory care setting, working from locations in Annapolis and Lanham, MD. Key tasks include greeting patients, handling registration and check-out, and scheduling appointments using a computerized practice management system. Protecting and maintaining patient medical records is an important part of this role. The Office Assistant helps keep patient flow smooth and provides customer service both in person and by phone. Collaboration with colleagues and physicians is essential to create a welcoming and efficient office environment.
Main responsibilities
- Welcome patients and complete accurate registration in the practice management system.
- Coordinate with insurance companies and other medical offices to obtain referrals and confirm coverage.
- Scan and abstract documents as needed.
- Request and manage patient records from other offices and hospitals when required.
- Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, take messages, and direct calls as appropriate.
- Support daily business operations to help maintain office efficiency.
Education and experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduation from an accredited training program is preferred.
- At least one year of clerical or billing experience in a medical office is preferred.
- Customer service experience is highly preferred.
Licenses and certifications
- Certification in Medical Interpretation is required for those serving as bilingual or multilingual interpreters.
