Qualifications

What You Need:5-15 years of engineering experience in the aerospace sector. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Experience with integrating air-breathing turbomachinery or propulsion systems (Turbofan, Turboshaft, etc.). Proficient in CAD software such as Solidworks or NX. Capability to manage CAD and complex assemblies in Team Center. Familiarity with Mil-Spec fasteners and aerospace hardware standards. Expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using professional tools like NASTRAN, ANSYS, or Abaqus.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design mechanical integration solutions for powertrain components on prototype aircraft, including generators, turboshaft engines, and energy storage systems (batteries).
  • Create detailed designs for metallic parts and assemblies that support powertrain mounting, structural interfaces, and overall system integration.
  • Conduct structural analysis and hand calculations to confirm component margins, load paths, and interface requirements.
  • Collaborate with structural analysts to ensure designs meet strength, stiffness, and fatigue specifications.
  • Work closely with powertrain engineers and the airframe team to ensure seamless integration of all systems.
  • Oversee the prototype development process, including requirements gathering, design, BOM, procurement, assembly, and testing.
  • Perform handbook calculations to verify system performance and component margins.
  • Engage with suppliers to select commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement rigorous verification testing strategies to validate your designs (e.g., DO-160G).
  • Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Support the development and documentation of requirements.
