MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in designing mechanical systems, particularly electromechanical systems and robotics. Hands-on experience in outdoor robotic applications and feasibility testing. Experience in R&D product development, utilizing and integrating with cutting-edge technologies. Proficiency in mechanical design and integration utilizing 3D CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships and earn trust.

ICON is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our Strategic R&D team in advancing cutting-edge defense technologies. As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in 3-D printed robotics, you will play a vital role in the conceptualization and detailed design of electro-mechanical systems tailored for military applications. Your contributions will include conducting trade studies, engaging in ideation sessions grounded in systems engineering principles, and ensuring the successful delivery of your designs to our end customers. This full-time position is based onsite at ICON’s state-of-the-art laboratories in Austin, TX, under the guidance of the Senior Director of Defense R&D Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in developing robotic platforms for terrestrial construction, emphasizing motion platforms and dynamic fluid systems.
  • Design and prototype new solutions leveraging both in-house and external fabrication resources.
  • Specify and integrate robotic servo-driven actuators using industry standards for mechanical applications.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and support in a rapid AGILE development environment.
  • Create design solutions adhering to rigorous engineering methodologies with thorough documentation.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to procure, fabricate, test, and deploy hardware.
  • Support and take guidance from the Lead Mechanical Engineer and senior engineering staff.
  • Perform diverse tasks daily to meet project milestones.
  • Establish individual and team objectives aligned with the company's overall OKRs.
